Dr. Shafik Sachedina was born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 1950. It was as a child that he first developed a passion for medicine and knew that his future lay in that direction.
By 1975 he had been trained and certified as a dental surgeon a Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School, University of London. He joined the staff of Sussex Healthcare where he eventually became the joint chairman. He has worked in a volunteer leadership capacity in the Ismaili community for many years. Throughout these years he has held a number of different high-level leadership positions. He has also lived and worked among the Ismaili community of Central Asia.

Among many other roles, in the past, he has served two consecutive terms as President of the Ismaili Council for the United Kingdom. He is the current Head of the Department of Jamati Institutions at the Secretariat of His Highness the Aga Khan at Aiglemont in France. In this position, Shafik Sachedina is responsible for coordinating the activities in the 16 UK Ismaili communities and for interfacing with the Aga Khan Development Network programs.
And throughout the years, Sachedina has continued his work for Sussex Health Care. Sussex is made up of a network of homes that care for the elderly and mentally infirm. It specializes in taking care of those afflicted by Alzheimer’s and dementia. In its current work, Sussex is proud to use the most highly qualified professionals from the University of Chichester in its work. After these highly qualified graduates come on board the Sussex team, Sachedina takes a strong hand in leading and mentoring them to make them the best professionals in the field possible. He is a very demanding, but very good mentor and boss—perhaps the best in his field in the entire world.
